On Friday, June 2, 2023, the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel issued a letter of informal admonition to attorney Amanda Price for his failure to represent a client diligently.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Amanda Price,” with case no. 2023-D022.

The charges cited DC Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(a), 1.3(a), and 1.3(c).

It is alleged that during the representation of a client in an employment discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuit, the respondent displayed incompetence in providing adequate legal representation, failed to demonstrate zealous and diligent advocacy within legal boundaries, and did not act promptly in representing the client.

The letter states:

“On June 21, 2022, IPRC moved to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that R.B.’s claim of discrimination and defamation were barred by the one-year statute of limitations and for failing to support a claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent supervision. You untimely filed your opposition to IPRC’s motion on July 14, 2022, which the court accepted. In that motion, you claimed that IPRC was aware that R.B. intended to file a lawsuit if an agreement could not be reached and blamed IPRC for the delay in filing, claiming that its negotiation was “in bad faith” and “tried to stall Mr. R.B. in order to gain as much time as possible.”

The letter continues:

“On September 19, 2022, the court rejected your argument and granted IPRC’s motion to dismiss. Although the order was sent to you via CaseFileXpress, you state you were unaware that the court had dismissed the matter until late December 2022. You informed R.B. that his matter was dismissed and, at his request, issued him a full refund.”

As a consequence, the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel chose to issue a letter of informal admonition to the respondent as a means of addressing the identified misconduct. This action serves as a disciplinary measure and a formal notice to the respondent regarding the violation of ethical standards.

The Disposition states:

“This office has completed its investigation of the above-referenced matter. We find that your conduct reflected a disregard of certain ethical standards under the District of Columbia Rules of Professional Conduct (the “Rules”). We are, therefore, issuing you this Informal Admonition pursuant to D.C. Bar Rule XI, §§ 3, 6, and 8.”
