On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Board of Immigration Appeals issued an order suspending attorney Brenda Elizabeth Vargas from practicing before the Board, immigration courts, and the Department of Homeland Security following her suspension from law practice in California.

According to the order, on May 6, 2024, the Supreme Court of California suspended Vargas from practicing law and placed her on three years probation for misconduct related to failing to promptly return client files after being terminated.
