On Friday, February 16, 2024, the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board accepted an agreed disposition between the VSB and attorney Cameron Wade Gilbert that resulted in a 30-day suspension of Gilbert’s law license.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Cameron Wade Gilbert,” with case no. 24-000-131043.
The disposition was the outcome of Gilbert’s felony conviction in Chesterfield County Circuit Court on January 9, 2024, for possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance. According to the stipulations of fact, Gilbert had been charged with this offense on May 1, 2022. He subsequently entered residential drug treatment from May 22 to June 15, 2022, and completed intensive outpatient treatment in August 2022.
As part of the agreed disposition, Gilbert and the VSB outlined the events and acknowledged his conviction constituted misconduct according to the Rules of the Supreme Court of Virginia. They jointly proposed a 30-day suspension as the appropriate sanction. The Disciplinary Board accepted this disposition and ordered the suspension to be effective from January 31, 2024, matching the date of Gilbert’s summary suspension resulting from his conviction.
The order requires Gilbert to notify his current clients and opposing counsel in pending cases about his suspension within 14 days. He must also make arrangements for ongoing client matters to be handled within 45 days. Gilbert must furnish proof to the VSB Clerk within 60 days that proper notifications were provided. If he was not actively representing any clients on the effective date, he must submit an affidavit to that effect. The board will evaluate Gilbert’s compliance with the notification and arrangement requirements.
According to avvo.com, Mr. Gilbert is a DUI & DWI attorney in Chester, Virginia. He acquired his law license in Virginia in 2000.
