On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals disbarred attorney Danielle Alexandra Phillips from the practice of law in DC.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Danielle Alexandra Phillips,” with case no. 2024 DDN 92

The disbarment stems from Phillips’ involvement in a $1.9 million fraud conspiracy while working at a veterans charity called Priority Soldier, Inc. According to court filings, in November 2020 Phillips submitted a fraudulent proposal on behalf of Priority Soldier to the State of Alabama requesting COVID-19 relief funds. Instead of using the funds to assist veterans with PTSD as intended, Phillips and her father Kenneth Phillips allegedly transferred most of the money to their personal bank accounts.

Both Danielle and Kenneth Phillips have agreed to plead guilty to federal fraud charges. The United States District Court for the District of New Mexico permanently disbarred Danielle Phillips from practicing law before their court.

In response to the New Mexico disbarment, on August 13, 2024, the D.C. Court of Appeals issued an interim suspension of Danielle Phillips’ law license pending further review of the imposition of reciprocal discipline.

On October 3, 2024, after considering Disciplinary Counsel’s request that identical disbarment be imposed, the D.C. Court of Appeals issued their order disbarring Phillips from practicing law in DC.
