On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Judicial Department granted Francis Sohn’s motion for reinstatement as an attorney and counselor-at-law in the State of New York. The decision, issued by a panel of justices including Presiding Justice Peter H. Moulton, Barbara R. Kapnick, Saliann Scarpulla, Julio Rodriguez III, and Llinét M. Rosado, marked the end of a suspension for Sohn, who had been barred from practicing law since March 20, 2025.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Francis Sohn,” with case no. 2025-01827.

Sohn faced suspension due to non-compliance with Judiciary Law Section 468-a. This law requires attorneys to meet specific registration or continuing education obligations to maintain their license to practice. The court’s order in March had prohibited Sohn from practicing law until further notice, pending compliance with the statute.

Following the suspension, Sohn took steps to address the issue, fulfilling the requirements of Judiciary Law Section 468-a on or about April 22, 2025. Subsequently, he submitted a motion to the New York Court seeking reinstatement. The court reviewed the motion and supporting documentation, confirming that Sohn had rectified the earlier violation.

After thorough deliberation, the justices approved Sohn’s reinstatement, allowing him to resume his legal practice immediately.

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Sohn is an ethics and professional responsibility attorney in Hammond, Indiana. He attended Cornell Law School. He acquired his law license in New York in 2013.
