On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board suspended the law license of Attorney Jennifer Grace Smyrnos. The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until the board confirms that Smyrnos has complied with a subpoena duces tecum issued on May 28, 2025.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Jennifer Grace Smyrnos,” with case no. 25-080-135649.

As part of the ruling, Smyrnos is required to notify all current clients, opposing attorneys, and presiding judges involved in active litigation about her suspension. This notification must be sent via certified mail no later than 14 days from the suspension’s effective date. Additionally, she must make suitable arrangements for the handling of her client matters in accordance with their wishes, completing these arrangements within 45 days.

Smyrnos must also provide proof to the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary System within 60 days, demonstrating that the required notifications and arrangements have been made. If she is not managing any client cases at the time of the suspension, she is obliged to submit an affidavit confirming this to the Clerk of the Disciplinary System.

The board has emphasized that it will review the adequacy of Smyrnos’s notifications and arrangements, placing the burden of proof on her to show compliance. Should she fail to do so, additional sanctions, including possible revocation of her license or further suspension, may be imposed.

According to Avvo.com, Ms. Smyrnos is an immigration attorney. She attended Washington and Lee University, graduating in 2012. She acquired her license in Virginia in the same year.
