On Friday, July 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of Delaware ordered the disbarment of attorney John Du Wors, a non-Delaware lawyer, following findings of professional misconduct related to his practice in the state. The disbarment stems from Du Wors’ failure to disclose pending disciplinary proceedings in Washington.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of John Du Wors,” with case no. 17, 2025.
Du Wors, who has been licensed to practice law in Washington since 2003, in California since 2004, and in New York since 2012, submitted a certification to the Delaware court asserting that he was not under any pending disciplinary actions. However, he was aware of ongoing proceedings in Washington at the time of his certification, which he failed to correct. Additionally, he participated in mediation of the Superior Court while he was suspended from practicing law in Washington.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) filed a Petition for Discipline against Du Wors in June 2024, citing violations of multiple Delaware Lawyers’ Rules of Professional Conduct. These included making false statements to a tribunal(3.3)(a)(1), knowingly disobeying tribunal rules(3.4)(c), conduct that is prejudicial to the admission of justice(8.4)(d), and engaging in conduct involving dishonesty and prejudice to the administration of justice(8.4)(c). He also violated Rule 5.5(c)(3), which states that a lawyer admitted in another jurisdiction and not suspended from practice in any jurisdiction may provide temporary legal services in a Delaware mediation, provided these services are related to the lawyer’s admission to practice elsewhere.
Since Du Wors did not respond to the allegations in the petition, all the charges were deemed admitted, pusuant to the Delaware Lawyers’ Rule of Disciplinary Procedure 9(d)(2). This left the Board on Professional Responsibility with the task of determining the appropriate disciplinary action. A sanctions hearing took place in October 2024, and the Board issued its report in January 2025. Following this, Du Wors filed objections with the Court.
Ultimately, the Supreme Court of Delaware upheld the Board’s recommendations, resulting in Du Wors being disbarred and unconditionally excluded from admission to or the exercise of any privilege to practice law in the state.
According to Avvo.com, Mr. Wors is a lawsuit and dispute attorney in Seattle, Washington.
