On Monday, November 24, 2025, the Supreme Court of Iowa suspended the law license of Attorney John Robert Newman. The suspension came after Newman failed to respond to an inquiry from the Attorney Disciplinary Board regarding a complaint filed against him.
The case is entitled “Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board v. John Robert Newman,” with case no. 25–1653.
According to a court document, the Attorney Disciplinary Board filed a certificate on October 7, 2025, noting Newman’s failure to respond to the complaint within the allotted time. Following this, on October 9, 2025, the Supreme Court Clerk issued a notice indicating that Newman’s license would be suspended if the Board did not withdraw its certificate within 20 days. The notice was sent to Newman via restricted certified mail and regular first-class mail to his designated mailing addresses.
The 20-day period has since expired, and the Board has not withdrawn its certificate. As a result, the court has ordered the immediate suspension of Newman’s license to practice law in Iowa.
The suspension will remain in effect until Newman pays the reinstatement fee to the Office of Professional Regulation, the Board withdraws its certificate, and the court issues an order reinstating his license. Newman is also required to comply with the notification provisions outlined in Iowa Court Rule 34.24.
The Disposition states:
“Accordingly, the court orders: The license of John Robert Newman to practice law in the State of Iowa is suspended, effective immediately.”
According to Martindale.com, Mr. Newman attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1982. He acquired his law license in Iowa in the same year.
