On Thursday, October 2, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted a motion for reinstatement to the practice of law for Attorney Joseph Wilson, who was previously suspended in September 2009.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Joseph Wilson,” with case no. PM-220-25.
Wilson’s suspension stemmed from a matter concerning attorneys in violation of Judiciary Law § 468-a. The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department, formerly known as the Committee on Professional Standards, served as the petitioner in the case.
Wilson, representing himself pro se, filed a motion for reinstatement, supported by an affidavit with exhibits sworn to on August 5, 2025, and a supplemental submission on August 19, 2025. The Attorney Grievance Committee submitted responsive correspondence on September 10, 2025. Wilson then provided a supplemental affidavit sworn to on September 12, 2025.
The court, after reviewing the submitted documents, determined through clear and convincing evidence that Wilson had met the requirements for reinstatement. These requirements include compliance with Rules of the Appellate Division, Third Department (22 NYCRR) § 806.16 (c) (5), adherence to the original suspension order and the court’s rules, demonstration of the requisite character and fitness to practice law, and a finding that his reinstatement would be in the public interest.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that respondent’s motion for reinstatement is granted, and it is further ORDERED that the respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective immediately.”
