On Friday, September 12, 2025, the Supreme Court of Florida suspended attorney Larry Edward Powers, III, from practicing law. This action stems from Powers’ failure to respond to official inquiries from The Florida Bar regarding a complaint filed against him. The suspension is effective 30 days from the date of the order, allowing Powers time to close his practice and safeguard the interests of his current clients.
The case is entitled “The Florida Bar v. Larry Edward Powers, III,” with case no. SC2025-1114.
According to a petition, The Florida Bar initially sent Powers a letter on January 16, 2025, advising him of the complaint and requesting a response by January 31, 2025. A second letter followed on February 11, 2025, with a response requested by February 21, 2025. A third attempt to contact Powers was made via email on March 4, 2025, attaching copies of the previous correspondence and setting a new deadline for a response of March 17, 2025.
On April 25, 2025, a staff investigator personally delivered the earlier correspondence and an additional letter from bar counsel, requesting a response within 10 days, to Powers at his residence. Despite these multiple attempts, Powers did not respond to the Bar’s inquiries.
Subsequently, on May 16, 2025, The Florida Bar served Powers via email with a Request for Issuance of Notice of Non-Compliance and Finding of Contempt. Powers again failed to respond. The Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee “A” found Powers in contempt and requested The Florida Bar to file a Petition for Contempt with the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court granted the petition after Powers failed to respond to an Order to Show Cause. The suspension will remain in effect until Powers fully responds in writing to the official Bar inquiries and until further order of the Court. Powers is also prohibited from accepting new clients from the date the order was filed. The court also entered a judgment against Powers for $1,250.00 to cover the costs incurred by The Florida Bar.
According to Avvo.com, Mr. Powers III is a nursing home abuse and neglect attorney in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He attended Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law. He acquired his law license in Florida in 2018.
