On Monday, October 21, 2024, the Supreme Court of Ohio reinstated attorney Omar Fahmi Shaaban to the practice of law.
The case is entitled “Disciplinary Counsel v. Shaaban,” with case number 2023-0179.
On October 11, 2023, the Ohio Supreme Court suspended Shaaban for two years, with one year conditionally stayed, for violating multiple professional conduct rules in eight client matters. The court found that Shaaban failed to act with reasonable diligence and promptness, failed to appear at multiple court hearings, failed to reasonably communicate with his clients, filed pleadings alleging defenses that he should have known did not apply to the facts of the case and made false statements to courts and opposing counsel.
After complying with the suspension order and with the provisions of Gov.Bar R. V(24), the Supreme Court granted Shaaban’s reinstatement application. He will be able to practice law again in Ohio but must complete an 18-month period of monitored probation. The court also ordered that within 30 days, the relator must provide the name of the attorney who will serve as Shaaban’s monitor. At the end of the probationary period, the relator must also file a report on whether Shaaban complied with the terms of his probation during that time.
According to avvo.com, Mr. Shaaban is a debt collection attorney in Toledo, Ohio. He acquired his law license in Ohio in 2010.
