On Friday, October 06, 2023, the Supreme Court of Iowa suspended attorney Raymond A. Mansolillo from practicing law in Iowa for 60 days as reciprocal discipline for a two-month suspension he received in Massachusetts.
The case is titled ‘In the Matter of Raymond A. Mansolillo’ with case no. 282.
Mansolillo was previously disciplined in Massachusetts where he received a two-month suspension from the Supreme Judicial Court for the County of Suffix that was ordered on July 18, 2023. Under Iowa Court Rule 34.19, the Iowa Supreme Court issues reciprocal discipline for attorneys licensed in Iowa who have been disciplined in other states. On August 16, 2023, the Iowa Supreme Court issued a notice asking Mansolillo and the Iowa Attorney Disciplinary Board to respond to whether an identical two-month suspension should be imposed in Iowa.
On September 7, 2023, the Attorney Disciplinary Board filed an objection arguing that a two-month suspension was too lenient and that a six-month suspension was more appropriate based on similar Iowa cases. Mansolillo responded that identical discipline was not necessarily warranted but that if Iowa did impose its own discipline, it should be reciprocal and identical to the two-month Massachusetts suspension in order to avoid further proceedings.
The Iowa Supreme Court ultimately suspended Mansolillo’s license to practice law in Iowa for 60 days beginning on October 6, 2023. The Court found no reason not to impose reciprocal discipline. Mansolillo will be eligible for reinstatement the day after the 60-day suspension is completed by filing for reinstatement without a hearing, unless the Attorney Disciplinary Board or Client Security Commission object to the reinstatement.
Attorney Raymond A. Mansolillo is an appeals attorney based in Boston, Massachusetts. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the Southern New England School of Law and was admitted to the Bar in the State of Iowa in 2012. More info on the bio of Attorney Masolillo can be found on Avvo.com.
