On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, the Board of Immigration Appeals ordered the disbarment of attorney Raymond P. Rampersad from practicing before immigration courts and the Department of Homeland Security.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Raymond P. Rampersad.”

Rampersad pleaded guilty in February 2024 to two counts of making false documents in violation of federal law in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. In July 2024, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for this crime.

Based on his conviction, the Disciplinary Counsels for the Executive Office for Immigration Review and DHS filed a joint notice of intent to discipline Rampersad in August 2024. They proposed disbarring him as he had been convicted of a serious crime, defined as a felony involving immigration fraud.

Rampersad admitted to the facts against him, including that he failed to notify the immigration authorities of his conviction as required. In his response, he said he had voluntarily surrendered his law license in Nebraska where he was formerly barred. He also provided notice of his conviction and disbarment to the disciplinary counsels at that time.

Considering Rampersad’s admission of the facts and conviction of a serious crime, the Board of Immigration Appeals ordered his disbarment from immigration courts and DHS, effective April 9, 2024, which was the date of his initial suspension.

According to Avvo, Mr. Rampersad is an immigration lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia. He obtained her law license in Nebraska in 1995.
