On Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility announced the temporary suspension of attorney Ricky A. W. Curtis’s law license. The Supreme Court of Tennessee issued the suspension after finding that Curtis failed to respond to the Board regarding a complaint of misconduct.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Ricky A. W. Curtis.”

Effective immediately, Curtis is prohibited from accepting new clients and must cease representing his existing clients by February 21, 2026. After that date, he is barred from using any titles or materials indicating he is a lawyer, legal assistant, or law clerk. He also cannot maintain a presence where legal practice occurs. Additionally, Curtis is precluded from accessing current or opening new trust accounts until the Court directs otherwise.

Curtis is required to inform all current clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel about the Supreme Court’s order suspending his license. He must also deliver all client papers and property to which they are entitled.

The suspension will remain in effect until the Supreme Court dissolves or modifies it. Curtis has the option to petition the Supreme Court for dissolution or modification of the suspension, provided there is sufficient cause.
