On Thursday, December 21, 2023, the Supreme Court of Michigan issued a Notice of Interim Suspension against Grayling Attorney W. Dane Carey.

On May 12, 2023, attorney Carey was convicted by guilty plea in the 86th District Court of Grand Traverse County of two felony offenses: possession of methamphetamine, in violation of MCL 333.74032B1, and use of a computer to commit a crime, in violation of MCL 750.145D2D.

Under MCR 9.120(B)(1), Carey’s license to practice law in Michigan was automatically suspended on the date of his felony convictions. The notice further stated that the matter was assigned to a hearing panel for further proceedings and the interim suspension of Carey’s law license would remain in effect until resolution of the issue by the panel under MCR 9.115(J).

In part, the notice reads:

“In accordance with MCR 9.120(B)(1), respondent’s license to practice law in Michigan was automatically suspended on the date of his felony convictions.”
