On Friday, January 5, 2024, the California Supreme Court issued an order disbarring Chelsea Faith Storey from practicing law in the state. The order came after Storey failed to respond to disciplinary charges brought against her by the State Bar of California.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Chelsea Faith Storey,” with case no. s281725.

According to records from the State Bar Court, Storey was served with a Notice of Disciplinary Charges on December 12, 2022, alleging violations of professional conduct rules and statutes. She did not file a timely written response.

As a result, the State Bar Court entered Storey’s default on February 10, 2023. Under the Rules of Procedure, Storey then had 90 days to file a motion to set aside the default. However, she did not file any such motion or make contact with the State Bar.

With Storey’s default standing, the Office of Chief Trial Counsel filed a Petition for Disbarment After Default for Failure to File Timely Response on May 19, 2023. The petition argued that all requirements had been met under Rule 5.85 for a mandatory disbarment recommendation. Specifically, reasonable diligence had been used to notify Storey, her default was properly entered, and the factual allegations in the notice of disciplinary charges supported a violation warranting discipline.

In the January 5, 2024 order, the Supreme Court agreed with this assessment. The order formally disbarred Storey from practicing law in California and removed her name from the roll of attorneys. It also imposed monetary sanctions and restitution requirements.

The Disposition states:

“The court orders that Chelsea Faith Storey (Respondent), State Bar Number 241756, is disbarred from the practice of law and that Respondent’s name is stricken from the roll of attorneys.”

According to avvo.com, Ms. Storey was a family attorney in San Clemente, California. She attended the University of Southern California Law School, graduating in 2005. She acquired her law license in California in 2006.
