On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Supreme Court of California summarily disbarred attorney Philip William Ganong from practicing law following his conviction for insurance fraud.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Philip William Ganong,” with case no. S285687.

In March 2024, the Office of Chief Trial Counsel of the State Bar of California filed a request for Mr. Ganong’s summary disbarment with the Review Department of the State Bar Court. This request came after Mr. Ganong’s October 2023 conviction in Orange County Superior Court for one count of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and nine counts of making or causing to be made false or fraudulent insurance claims, all felonies involving moral turpitude. Mr. Ganong admitted to engaging in a pattern of fraudulent conduct totaling over $500,000 as well.

The Office of Chief Trial Counsel asked that Mr. Ganong be summarily disbarred under California law. They also sought $5,000 in monetary sanctions.

In its September 2024 order, the Supreme Court approved both the summary disbarment and a $5,000 fine to be paid to the State Bar of California’s Client Security Fund. Mr. Ganong is now prohibited from practicing law in California and his name will be stricken from the roll of attorneys.

According to avvo.com, Mr. Ganong was a spinal cord injury attorney in Bakersfield, California. He attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, graduating in 1979. He acquired his law license in California in the same year.
