Canada attorney Sean Satish Lal reinstated to law practice in New York following suspension for Judiciary Law violation in May 2019

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division Third Judicial Department ruled on the petition for reinstatement from suspension filed by Canada attorney Sean Satish Lal.

The case is styled ‘In the Matter of Sean Satish Lal’ with case no. PM-224-22.

Lal was suspended by a May 2019 order of the Court under (Matter of Attorneys in Violation of Judiciary Law § 468-a, 172 AD3d 1706, 1735[3d Dept 2019]. Lal sought reinstatement and filed before the Court its notice of motion, an affidavit with exhibits sworn on September 21, 2022. The Attorney Grievance Committee filed its responsive correspondence on November 10, 2022.

The Court determined by clear and convincing evidence that Lal has complied with the order of suspension and the Rules of Court, that he has the requisite character and fitness to practice law, and that it would be in the public interest to reinstate him to the practice of law.

The filing states:

‘Although respondent has presented evidence of continuing legal education accreditation in 2022 which leaves him two credits shy of the prerequisite set forth in Rules of the Appellate Division, Third Department. . , we have exercised our discretion to deem that specific requirement satisfied in light of additional documentation establishing respondent’s successful passage of the MultistateProfessional Responsibility Examination in 2022.’

Accordingly, the Court ruled in favor of Lal and granted his application for reinstatement.

The disposition reads:

“ORDERED that respondent’s motion for reinstatement is granted; and it is further

ORDERED that respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective immediately.”

As of today, Mr. Sean Satish Lal practices in Brampton, Ontario in Canada. He earned his law degree from University at Buffalo School of Law. He has been licensed in New York, license no. 5157243, as well as in Canada. His info can be found on LinkedIn.
