On Monday, February 23, 2026, the Review Board of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission recommended a two-year suspension until further order of the court for attorney Mahdis Azimi. This recommendation stems from a disciplinary Amended Complaint filed by the Administrator of the Commission, which alleged misconduct across ten immigration cases.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Mahdis Azimi,” with case number 2023PR00003.
The initial complaint contained ten counts, accusing Azimi of violating several Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct (2010). These violations included a failure to act with reasonable diligence, neglecting to promptly respond to clients and keep them informed about their cases, and making misrepresentations to clients.
Further allegations stated that Azimi failed to properly hold client funds in a designated client trust account and did not refund unearned fees to clients. She was also accused of failing to surrender client files upon request, making false statements during the disciplinary proceedings, and not adequately responding to the Administrator’s requests for information.
Following a hearing, the Hearing Board found Azimi guilty of all misconduct charges outlined in the Complaint. The Hearing Board initially recommended a three-year suspension until further order of the Court. Azimi, representing herself, appealed the decision.
In her appeal, Azimi argued she did not commit the misconduct in certain counts, either in full or in part. She further claimed that the Chair of the Hearing Board Panel abused his discretion by making several rulings during the proceedings. Azimi proposed a lesser sanction of a five-month suspension, with the possibility of it being partially or fully stayed by probation, without the until further order provision.
The Review Board ultimately affirmed all of the Hearing Board’s original findings of misconduct. It also upheld the Chair’s rulings that were challenged during the appeal. However, the Review Board modified the recommended sanction, reducing the suspension period to two years, until further order of the Court.
According to Avvo, Ms. Azimi is an immigration lawyer in Chicago, IL. She acquired her law license in Illinois in 2015.
