On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, the acting Attorney General for the State of Illinois filed 32 counts of misconduct against Coles County attorney and former prosecutor Brady L. Allen involving three women who have pending criminal cases handled by Allen and by other prosecutors in the Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The case is titled The People of the State of Illinois vs. Brady L. Allen with case no. 2023 CF 44.

The complaint alleges that Allen, from December 2018 until his resignation in August 2020 as the assistant state attorney, had inappropriate communication that was sexual in nature with the three women.

Kwame Raoul, Illinois Attorney General, said that his office charged Allen with nine counts of bribery, one count of witness harassment, 21 counts of official misconduct, and one count of witness intimidation.

The allegations in the complaint include Allen having solicited sexual contact, photographs, and videos from the women in exchange of having their pending criminal cases preferred. It was further alleged that Allen continued his conduct even after he was assigned to another courtroom, and suggested to the women that he could influence other prosecutors of the State’s Attorney’s Office.

On the other hand, Jesse Danley, Coles County State’s Attorney, said that there had been a thorough investigation into the matter, thanks to the Illinois State Police, the attorney general, and his staff. Danley further said that his office will fully cooperate with the investigation and prosecution of Allen’s case.

Imprisonment of up to seven years and fines up to $25,000 will be imposed upon Allen’s conviction.
