On Friday, February 24, 2023, the Colorado Supreme Court suspended Aurora attorney Michael Yi for misconduct. The case is entitled People v. Michael Yi, case no. 22ODJ050.

The charges cited Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct Rules 8.4(b) and (c), which states that:

It is professional misconduct for a lawyer to commit a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in other respects.

A lawyer must not engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.

The Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct can be found here.

The suspension stemmed from Yi’s violation of the above-cited rules of professional conduct by Yi’s use of his brother’s notary stamp and license. Yi also forged his brother’s signature on at least fourteen clients’ settlement documents.

With all these factual findings and upon consideration of the parties’ stipulation to discipline Yi, the Court entered its Order suspending Yi for thirty months, effective April 15, 2023. The Court further ordered that Yi’s reinstatement to law practice is conditioned upon clear and convincing evidence that Yi has been rehabilitated, has complied with all disciplinary orders and rules, and is fit to practice law.

Mr. Yi practiced in Aurora, Colorado, prior to the suspension. He has been admitted to the Colorado Bar, license no. 36279.
