On Monday, February 6, 2023,  the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ordered the interim suspension of Louisiana attorney Lane N. Bennett pursuant to the imposed discipline upon the latter in the State of Louisiana.

The case is titled  ‘In re Lane N. Bennett’ with Case #2022-D061.

On March 25, 2022, the Supreme Court of Louisiana suspended Bennett from the practice of law in that state for a period of three years for violations of the Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct by engaging in dishonest conduct and conduct constituting a conflict of interest. The suspension was pursuant to the Hearing Committee and the Board of Professional Responsibility findings that Bennett violated the Rules as charged and that Bennett’s misconduct has caused actual harm to his clients. It was further found that Bennett intentionally and knowingly violated duties owed to his clients, the public, and the legal profession. For these reasons, both the Hearing Committee and the Board recommended that Bennett be disbarred, however, the Court determined that disbarment is too harsh a sanction,  and instead suspended Bennett from the practice of law for three years.
