On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals granted a motion from the Disciplinary Counsel for an indefinite suspension from legal practice for attorney Clayborne E. Chavers due to disability. This decision follows a petition submitted on behalf of the Board on Professional Responsibility.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Clayborne E. Chavers,” with case no. 25-BS-0663.
The court indicated that both Chavers and the relevant parties, including Disciplinary Counsel and the Board, were in agreement regarding the necessity of an indefinite suspension based on his health condition. As part of the proceedings, the court emphasized the importance of appointing legal counsel to assist Chavers with succession planning.
Mary Paloger, Esquire, has been appointed to oversee these responsibilities. Her tasks will include creating an inventory of Chavers’ ongoing cases, appropriately handling his files, distributing funds from his escrow accounts, and maintaining continuity of client representation. Paloger is required to submit a written acceptance of her appointment to the Board.
