On Monday, July 21, 2025, The Florida Bar filed a complaint against Attorney Christine Marie Humphrey, alleging professional misconduct. The complaint, submitted to the Supreme Court of Florida, accuses Humphrey of charging excessive fees, failing to communicate adequately with clients, and continuing to present herself as eligible to practice law despite being delinquent in paying a fee arbitration award.

The case is entitled “The Florida Bar v. Christine Marie Humphrey,” with case no. 2022-70,012(11B).

Humphrey’s firm specializes in securing Food and Drug Administration approvals for medical devices. On August 28, 2020, clients hired Humphrey for legal services related to this specialty. The relationship between Attorney Christine Marie Humphrey and clients Julie LaLonde and Brenda Sanchez soured due to excessive billing and inadequate communication. LaLonde demanded a $20,000 refund for legal fees.

The complaint states that on January 21, 2021, Humphrey agreed to refund $20,000 in legal fees within 30 days but failed to do so. This led to a bar complaint filed against her on June 23, 2021. Following an arbitration award in favor of the clients, Humphrey did not pay the awarded amount, citing financial constraints. As a result, in July 2022, she was deemed a delinquent member of the bar and ineligible to practice law.

Despite her ineligibility, Humphrey allegedly maintained an active online presence, including a law firm website and social media, offering legal services in Florida. The clients made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact her regarding the refund. After reopening the bar complaint on August 8, 2022, the Florida Bar continued to pursue the matter. In May 2024, bar counsel urged Humphrey to honor the arbitration agreement. She paid the arbitration award on August 20, 2024, and was reinstated as eligible to practice law.

The Florida Bar alleges violations of rules related to misconduct, communication, and legal fees, seeking appropriate disciplinary action.

The complaint states:

“The Florida Bar prays respondent will be appropriately disciplined in accordance with the provisions of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar as amended.”

According to Avvo.com, Ms. Humphrey is an administrative law attorney in Miami, Florida. She attended the University of Miami School of Law, graduating in 2003. She acquired her law license in Florida in 2004.
