On Thursday, February 15, 2024, the Florida Bar filed a petition for contempt and order to show cause against attorney Don Gonzalez. The petition alleges Gonzalez failed to respond to multiple inquiries from the Bar relating to three separate grievance files.

The case is entitled “The Florida Bar v. Don Gonzalez.”

The Florida Bar petitioned the court to hold Gonzalez in contempt and to suspend his law license until he fully cooperates with the Bar’s requests for information. According to the petition, the Bar had opened investigations under files 2023-50,744(17B), 2023-50,687(17B), and 2023-50,644(17B) but Gonzalez did not respond to any inquiries regarding the matters. As a result, the Grievance Committee found Gonzalez acted in non-compliance and contempt in all three cases.

If held in contempt, Gonzalez faces an indefinite suspension of his ability to practice law in Florida. The Bar is also seeking $1,250 in administrative costs from Gonzalez to cover expenses related to the contempt case.

The petition states:

“WHEREFORE, The Florida Bar requests that this Court suspend respondent pursuant to Rule3-7.11(f), until such time as respondent fully responds in writing to the official bar inquiries contained in Exhibits 1, 2 and3 and until further order of this Court”

According to Avvo, Mr. Gonzalez is an immigration attorney in Weston, Florida. He attended the Saint Louis University School of Law. He obtained his law license in Florida in 1993.
