On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the Supreme Court of Illinois suspended attorney Jason Paul Young from practicing law for a period of 90 days. This disciplinary action follows a petition from the Administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, which was approved under Supreme Court Rule 762(b).

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Jason Paul Young,” with case no. M.R.032390.

The court’s decision was based on findings that Young engaged in misconduct during his tenure as an Assistant Attorney General. Specifically, Young submitted false timesheets to the Attorney General’s Office, falsely indicating that he was working full days when, in fact, he was representing clients in juvenile abuse and neglect cases on behalf of his wife, who also held a position as an Assistant Attorney General. This misconduct reportedly occurred on at least 18 separate occasions between February 2022 and June 2023.

Young has not faced prior disciplinary action during his 21 years of legal practice. However, the court emphasized that his actions were not an isolated incident but rather a prolonged pattern of deceitful behavior. The Administrator’s petition highlighted that Young’s actions constituted dishonesty and deceit, which are violations of Rule 8.4(c) of the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct.

In the court’s official order, it was also noted that Young is required to reimburse the Client Protection Program Trust Fund for any payments made to clients as a result of his misconduct prior to the end of his suspension. The court’s ruling aims to address the seriousness of Young’s actions while also taking into account his previously unblemished record in the legal field.

The Disposition states:

“Petition by the Administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission to impose discipline on consent pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 762(b). Allowed. Respondent Jason Paul Young is suspended from the practice of law for ninety (90) days. Suspension effective December 10, 2024.”
