On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, the Administrator of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission filed charges for attorney discipline against Chicago attorney Ian Bennet Berliner alleging conversion of funds, dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation, and failure to respond to a lawful demand for information from a disciplinary authority.
The case, titled In the Matter of Ian Bennet Berliner, is being heard by the Hearing Board of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. Case #2022PR00074.
The charges cited Berliner’s violations of Rule 1.15(a), 1.15(d), 8.4(c), 8.1(a), and 8.1(b) of the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct.
The Complaint involves seven counts of misconduct, mainly relating to Respondent’s conversion of funds in five separate and unrelated matters; Respondent’s making a false statement to the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC); and Respondent’s failure to cooperate with the ARDC.
Accordingly, Jerome Larkin, Administrator of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, requested “that this matter be referred to a panel of the Hearing Board of the Commission, that a hearing be conducted, and that the Hearing Panel make findings of fact, conclusions of fact and law, and a recommendation for such discipline as is warranted.”
