On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Supreme Court of Iowa suspended attorney Shanon Erik Zisman from practicing law in the state. This decision follows Zisman’s failure to comply with a request from the Iowa Client Security Commission regarding an audit of his lawyer trust account.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Shanon Erik Zisman,” with case no. 25-0070.

The Commission had previously reached out to Zisman on December 9, 2024, seeking necessary trust account information to carry out the audit. However, Zisman did not provide the requested information. On December 20, 2024, the Commission sent a notice to Zisman, warning him that his law license would be suspended if he did not rectify the situation or formally request a hearing to contest the suspension.

The notice was sent via regular and restricted certified mail to both his home and office addresses, as recorded by the Office of Professional Regulation. The certified mail sent to Zisman’s home address was unclaimed, while the notice sent to his office address was signed for. Additionally, Zisman was notified via email, and there was no indication that this email was undeliverable.

The Commission confirmed that the fifteen-day notice period stipulated by Iowa Court Rule 39.8(2) had passed without Zisman providing the necessary information or filing a request for a hearing. Consequently, the Commission sought a temporary suspension of his license, which the Supreme Court granted.

The Disposition states:

“The court orders: The license of Shanon Erik Zisman to practice law in the State of Iowa is suspended, effective immediately.”

According to avvo.com, Mr. Zisman is a Chapter 7 bankruptcy attorney in Fairfield, Iowa. He attended the Vermont Law School, graduating in 2011. He acquired his law license in Iowa in 2021.
