On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, the State of Minnesota Supreme Court, in a Notice, ordered Lake Elmo attorney Michael B Padden to file his answer on the Petition for Disciplinary Action filed against him for alleged failure to communicate with his clients.
The case is entitled “In the matter of Michael V. Padden” and was brought by the Director of Lawyers Professional Responsibility.
The charges cited Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct 1.2(a), 1.4(b), 1.8(e), and 8.4(d).

In an Order of the State of Minnesota Supreme Court dated October 9, 2017, it was stated that the respondent allegedly committed professional misconduct for agreeing to settle a case without his client’s consent. Therefore, failing to communicate the settlement agreement with the latter, providing financial assistance, and making an inaccurate statement to the court.
The Respondent and the Director had entered into a stipulation for Discipline. Mr. Michael unconditionally admitted the allegations on the Petition. The parties jointly recommend that the appropriate discipline is a public reprimand.
On January 17, 2023, the court issued a Notice notifying the respondent, pursuant to Rule 13 of Rules on Lawyers Professional Responsibility, that he must file his answer to the Petition for Disciplinary Action.
