On Friday, March 3, 2023, the Supreme Court of Louisiana ordered the interim suspension of New Orleans attorney Richard William Huye III in consideration of the petition filed by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.

The case is styled “In Re: Richard William Huye III ” and was brought by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC), under case no. 2023-B-0277.

In a report filed on February 28, 2023, Hearing Committee #8 recommended the suspension of Huye to the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board over allegations of misconduct. The disciplinary charges alleged Huye to have violated the rules of professional conduct governing communications concerning a lawyer’s services and unsolicited written communications to prospective clients.

The Report of Hearing Committee #8 states:

“Huye acknowledged that his firm spent $624,796 to mail approximately 1,119,207 unsolicited written communications to prospective clients. Each of these letters was mailed without the required LSBA filing number. Huye further contended that he intended to handle all matters that originated from the publication of the approximately 1,119,207 unsolicited written communications.”

The Report of Hearing Committee #8 continues:

“In addition to the mail campaign, Respondent’s firm displayed a billboard and bus campaign targeting the same individuals as the written solicitations–storm victims with commercial and/or residential damage. As with his admission in his written campaign, Respondent acknowledged that he did not disclose, by city or town, a bona fide office location of the lawyers who would perform the services advertised.”

The Court, after its review of the petition, entered its order placing Huye on interim suspension.

The Disposition reads:

“IT IS ORDERED that respondent, Richard William Huye III, Louisiana Bar Roll number 38282, be and he hereby is suspended from the practice of law on an interim basis pursuant to Supreme Court Rule XIX, § 19.2, pending further orders of this court. Pursuant to Supreme Court Rule XIX,  § 26(E), this order is effective immediately.”

As of today, Mr. Richard William Huye III is listed as the Managing Partner at McClenny, Moseley & Associates, PLLC, New Orleans office.  He graduated from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law. Huye has been licensed in Louisiana, license no. 38282.
