On Monday, May 12, 2025, a Panel of the Maine Grievance Commission publicly reprimanded Attorney Dennis Hamrick for his lack of response to disciplinary inquiries.

The case is entitled “Board of Overseers of the Bar v. Dennis Hamrick,” with case no. GCF 24-323.

The Board of Overseers of the Bar notified Hamrick on May 8, 2024, of his non-compliance with CLE obligations, warning him of potential suspension. The notice, sent to his registered address, was not returned, but Hamrick did not respond. Consequently, he was administratively suspended from practicing law in Maine on July 24, 2024, for failing to complete or report required CLE credits. Hamrick also neglected to file an affidavit within ten days of his suspension, as required by Maine Bar Rule 4(k), to confirm compliance with suspension protocols.

On August 22, 2024, Assistant Bar Counsel filed a sua sponte complaint due to Hamrick’s non-compliance. A copy of the complaint was emailed to Hamrick’s designated email address on September 11, 2024, with a response deadline of October 2, 2024. No read receipt was generated, and Hamrick later claimed he did not receive the email. Bar Counsel’s staff resent the complaint on September 30, 2024, via a secure email service, but again received no response. On October 11, 2024, Hamrick was notified that his failure to respond violated Maine Rule of Professional Conduct 8.1(b). Despite a read receipt confirming he received this email, he did not reply by the extended deadline of October 18, 2024.

On December 10, 2024, the Grievance Commission found probable cause of misconduct and directed Bar Counsel to file formal disciplinary charges. Hamrick did not answer the charges or attend the public hearing, leading to the allegations being deemed admitted.

The Panel determined that Hamrick’s actions violated his duties to the legal system and caused injury to the profession. In addition to the public reprimand, the Panel ordered Hamrick to stop presenting himself as an authorized attorney in Maine until reinstated.

The Disposition states:

“For the above-stated reasons, the Panel concludes that the appropriate disposition of this case is a Public Reprimand to Mr. Dennis Hamrick, which is now hereby issued and imposed upon him pursuant to M. Bar R. 21(b)(5). Additionally, the Panel directs Mr. Hamrick to cease holding himself out as an attorney authorized to practice law in Maine unless and until he is reinstated from administrative suspension.”

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Hamrick is a child support attorney in Bangor, Maine. He attended the University of Maine School of Law. He acquired his law license in Maine in 1995.
