On Friday, September 5, 2025, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court suspended attorney Thomas S. Karod from practicing law in Maine, effective immediately. The order, issued in response to a petition filed by the Board of Overseers of the Bar on August 28, 2025, cites violations of the Maine Rules of Professional Conduct.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Thomas S. Karod,” with case number BAR-25-24.

The court’s decision, based on evidence submitted by the Board and an affidavit from Bar Counsel, concludes that Karod’s misconduct poses an imminent threat to clients, the public, and the administration of justice in Maine. The specific violations include breaches of M.R.’s Prof. Conduct 8.4(a), (c), and (d).

In addition to the suspension, the court has ordered Karod to vacate his law offices, including any home office, and to cease practicing law immediately. He must also shut down all websites, social media accounts (including Facebook), and any other forms of advertising related to his legal services during the suspension period.

The order further prohibits Karod from removing any funds, files, data, checkbooks, financial records, client property, computer hardware/software, or any client-related or law office-related items. Karod is also barred from serving as a fiduciary and is ordered to relinquish any current positions as a designated fiduciary, taking the necessary steps to be discharged from those duties.

The suspension will remain in effect until further order of the court.

According to Lawyers.com, Mr. Karod acquired his law license in Maine in 1994.
