On September 26, 2022, the Supreme Judicial Court of the State of Maine ordered the public reprimand of Massachusetts attorney John A. Doonan over allegations of negligent misuse of client funds.
The case is styled Board of Overseers of the Bar v. John A. Doonan, Esq., Docket No. Bar 22-16.
Mr. Doonan was publicly reprimanded by the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers of the Supreme Judicial Court on July 29, 2022, for violating Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct, Rules 1.15(b), 1.15(b)(2)(ii), 1.15(b)(4) and 1.15(f)(1)(B), (C), (D) and (E).

The order of public reprimand in Massachusetts stemmed from allegations of Mr. Doonan having engaged in misconduct by his negligent misuse of client funds resulting from his failure to maintain adequate IOLTA records and failure to safe keep client funds. Mr. Doonan’s misconduct in Massachusetts is analogous to violations of Maine Rules of Professional Conduct 1.15(b) and 1.15(b)(2)(iii).
Mr. Doonan consented to reciprocal discipline in this matter.
Accordingly, the Court imposed the same discipline against Mr. Doonan as that imposed in Massachusetts.
The Order of Reciprocal Discipline reads:
“The court ORDERS that John A. Doonan, Esq. is hereby publicly reprimanded.”
The public reprimand’s effectivity date was on January 2, 2023.
Mr. John A. Doonan, Esq. earned his law degree from Suffolk Law School. He practices in Beverly, Massachusetts He is listed as the founder of the law firm, Doonan, Graves & Longoria, LLC. According to Avvo, Doonan has been licensed in Maine, New York, and Massachusetts.
