On Friday, January 23, 2026, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court terminated the co-receivership of the former law practice of attorney William B. Blaisdell, IV. Paul F. Driscoll and Daniel A. Pileggi served as co-receivers and petitioned for their discharge.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of William B. Blaisdell, IV,” with case no. BAR-24-25.

The court’s decision follows a supplemental report from the co-receivers regarding their actions since August 20, 2025. This report details the disposition of wills, client files, and reimbursements to clients from Blaisdell’s former client trust account. All but $181.86 of the funds were reimbursed to clients. The remaining balance of $181.86 is currently held in the Norman, Hanson & DeTroy, LLC (“NHD”) client trust account.

The co-receivers addressed a single court matter, a child protective case, by arranging for Blaisdell to withdraw and transferring the case to other counsel. They found no other pending court cases or open matters where Blaisdell was providing legal services to former clients. The remaining issue was the disposition of the $181.86.

The co-receivers, after consulting with the Maine Board of Bar Overseers, recommended that the funds be deposited with the Bar Overseers, pending any claims against the funds for three years. According to Title 33, Chapter 45, § 2052 24(B)(8) of Maine law, unclaimed IOLTA funds are subject to escheat to the state after three years. The court agreed that the funds should be safeguarded by the Board in a trust account to satisfy any claims for reimbursement from former clients. After three years, any remaining funds will be surrendered to the Lawyers Fund for Client Protection.

The court approved the co-receivers’ report and recommendations. Upon confirmation that the $181.86 has been paid to the Maine Board of Bar Overseers by Mr. Driscoll, Paul F. Driscoll and Daniel A. Pileggi will be discharged from their duties as co-receivers. The IOLTA funds will be retained by the Maine Board of Overseers pending further court order. Any funds remaining on the third anniversary of the order will be deposited in the Lawyers Fund for Client Protection.

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Blaisdell IV is an attorney in Ellsworth, Maine. He attended the University of Dayton School of Law, graduating in 1995. He acquired his law license in Maine in 1999.
