On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, the Attorney Discipline Board of the State of Michigan ordered the reinstatement of Detroit attorney William Otis Culpepper to the practice of law.
The case was brought by the Attorney Grievance Commission under Case No. 22-2-GA.
On November 4, 2022, Culpepper was suspended by consent from the practice of law for 30 days, effective November 29, 2022, by the Tri-County Hearing Panel #18. The suspension was based on Culpepper’s admissions of the factual allegations set forth in the amended formal complaint. His admissions of misconduct include lack of diligence in representing a client, failure to keep the client informed about the status of the representation, and failure to provide invoice and refund of unearned fees.
Lagarde sought the modification of the effective date of the order of suspension to December 14, 2022, which the Court granted on November 23, 2022.
According to the Order of Reinstatement, Culpepper submitted an affidavit showing compliance with all the requirements stated in the panel’s order. The Grievance Administrator advised the Board that it posed no objection to Culpepper’s affidavit.
Correspondingly, the Board ruled in favor of Culpepper and reinstated him to the practice of law effective January 24, 2023.
According to Avvo, Mr. William Otis Culpepper practices in Detroit, Michigan with the law firm Culpepper & Kinney. He has been licensed in Michigan and is permitted to practice in Illinois.
