On Friday, January 30, 2026, the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board issued a notice announcing the disbarment of attorney Michelle L. Elowski, effective immediately. The action follows a formal complaint filed by the Grievance Administrator.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Michelle L. Elowski,” with case no. 24-18-GA.
The board’s decision was based on Elowski’s default, corroborated by witness testimony and documentary evidence, and her no contest plea to criminal charges in Oscoda County Circuit Court (Case Nos. 24-1953-FH and 24-1954-FH). The panel found that Elowski misappropriated funds from multiple clients.
The disbarment was based on violations of the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC) and Michigan Court Rules (MCR). These violations include failure to act with diligence, failure to keep clients informed, failure to explain matters for informed decisions, failure to properly handle client funds, making false statements, engaging in dishonest conduct, and violating criminal laws.
Elowski was ordered to pay $266,091.90 in restitution and $3,933.69 in costs. Elowski’s license to practice law in Michigan has been continuously suspended since January 16, 2025.
On January 29, 2026, Elowski filed a petition for review, which is currently pending before the Board.
According to Avvo.com, Ms. Elowski was a family attorney in Alpena, Michigan. She acquired her law license in Michigan in 2011.
