On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the Disciplinary Review Board of the Supreme Court of New Jersey admonished attorney Nosheen Khawaja for violating rules regarding attorney trust account record-keeping.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Nosheen Khawaja,” with case no. DRB 24-171.

The Board’s decision stems from a random audit in September 2020 by the Office of Attorney Ethics which found several deficiencies in Khawaja’s financial records over a six-month period. Specifically, Khawaja failed to maintain proper ledgers, journals, account designations, and reconciliations as required by Rule 1:21-6. Additionally, Khawaja’s ABA had been closed due to overdrafts, and inactive balances were left in her trust account, against the rules.

This was not the first time Khawaja had issues, as a 2006 audit uncovered similar record-keeping violations. However, in this recent matter Khawaja agreed with the findings, took responsibility, and rectified the problems by August 2021.

As a result, the Board issued an admonition against Khawaja and required her to take a remedial record-keeping course within 60 days and provide quarterly account reconciliations for two years.

According to avvo.com, Ms. Khawaja is an attorney in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. She acquired her law license in New Jersey in 1995.
