On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Disciplinary Review Board of the Supreme Court of New Jersey issued a letter of admonition to attorney Paul N. Ambrose, Jr. for misrepresenting his academic credentials. The Board found that Ambrose violated ethical rules by allowing false information about his educational background to appear on law firm websites and in marketing materials.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Paul N. Ambrose, Jr.,” with case no. DRB 25-094.

Ambrose, who graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1979 with a juris doctor, did not earn cum laude honors. He also attended the New York University School of Law between 1985 and 1988, but did not complete the coursework required for an LLM degree. Despite this, from 2010 to 2014, the website of his former law firm falsely claimed he had an LLM from NYU and graduated cum laude from Seton Hall. Ambrose acknowledged he should have corrected these inaccuracies, but did not.

After joining a new firm in 2015, the same false credentials were published on its website. In 2016, before his firm merged with another, Ambrose accurately reported his credentials on an employment application, stating he was an LLM degree candidate at NYU. He also ensured the merged firm’s website did not include false information. Additionally, Ambrose presented at approximately 20 Continuing Legal Education seminars hosted by the National Business Institute between 2014 and 2019. Although he instructed the institute to remove the false credentials in 2014 or 2015, one brochure from a 2016 seminar still included them.

The Board determined that Ambrose violated RPC 7.1(a)(1), RPC 7.1(a)(2), and RPC 8.4(c) by allowing these misrepresentations, which could mislead potential clients about his qualifications. In issuing the admonition, the Board considered mitigating factors, including the lack of evidence of client harm, the nine years since the misrepresentations appeared, and Ambrose’s 45-year career without prior discipline.

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Ambrose is a business attorney in Hackensack, New Jersey. He acquired his law license in New Jersey in 1980.
