On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Supreme Court of New Jersey disbarred attorney Joshua Adam Janis. The disbarment follows a decision by the Disciplinary Review Board, which recommended the disbarment as a final disciplinary measure.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Joshua Adam Janism,” with case no. 091087.
The disbarment stems from convictions in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, specifically in the Court of Common Pleas of Chester County. These convictions include third-degree felony theft by unlawful taking, in violation of 18 Pa. C.S. § 3921(a), third-degree felony theft by deception, and first-degree misdemeanor theft by deception, both in violation of 18 Pa. C.S. § 3922(a)(1).
Additionally, Janis was convicted of first-degree misdemeanor identity theft, in violation of 18 Pa. C.S. § 4120(a), third-degree felony forgery, in violation of 18 Pa. C.S. § 4101(a)(2), and three counts of third-degree felony access device fraud, in violation of 18 Pa. C.S. § 4106(a)(1)(ii).
The Supreme Court’s order also cites violations of RPC 8.4(b), which pertains to committing a criminal act that reflects negatively on a lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness, and RPC 8.4(c), which addresses engaging in dishonest, fraudulent, deceitful, or misrepresentative conduct. The court further referenced the principles of In re Siegel, 133 N.J. 162 (1993), related to the misappropriation of law firm funds, noting two instances of such conduct.
Janis failed to appear in response to an order directing him to demonstrate why he should not be disbarred or otherwise disciplined. The order mandates that Janis is restrained and enjoined from practicing law and must comply with Rule 1:20-20, which governs disbarred attorneys. Any funds maintained by Janis in New Jersey financial institutions are to be restrained from disbursement and transferred to the Clerk of the Superior Court for deposit in the Superior Court Trust Fund, pending further court orders.
The entire record of the matter will be made a permanent part of Janis’s file as an attorney in the state. Janis is also ordered to reimburse the Disciplinary Oversight Committee for administrative costs and expenses incurred during the prosecution of the matter, as per Rule 1:20-17.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that Joshua Adam Janis is hereby disbarred, effective immediately, and that the respondent’s name be stricken from the roll of attorneys.”
