On Thursday, April 11, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department accepted the application of Thomas Granville Burgess to resign from the New York State Bar.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Thomas Granville Burgess,” with case no. PM-63-24.
Burgess had applied for nondisciplinary resignation. The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department did not oppose his application for resignation.
In his affidavit to the court filed on March 18, 2024, Burgess expressed his desire to no longer remain licensed to practice law in New York. The Attorney Grievance Committee responded to his application on March 29, 2024, stating they did not raise any objections.
In its order, the New York Court accepted Burgess’s nondisciplinary resignation application. With this decision, Burgess’ name will be removed from the roll of attorneys authorized to practice in New York. He is also required to return any attorney secure pass issued to him and is prohibited from engaging in the practice of law in New York going forward.
The Disposition states:
“ORDERED that Thomas Granville Burgess’s application for permission to resign is granted and his nondisciplinary resignation is accepted.”
According to avvo.com, Mr. Burgess is an attorney in Washington, District of Columbia. He acquired his law license in New York in 2012.
