On Thursday, October 31, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted the application of attorney Michael John Lunga to resign from the New York bar for nondisciplinary reasons.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Michael John Lunga,” with case no. PM-210-24.
The court’s decision was based on Lunga’s affidavit sworn to on September 9, 2024, and filed on September 11, 2024, as well as the October 22, 2024 correspondence from the Deputy Chief Attorney for the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department (AGC), which indicated that the AGC did not oppose Lunga’s application.
The court found that Lunga was eligible to resign for nondisciplinary reasons and granted his application, accepting his resignation. As a result, Lunga’s name has been stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law of the State of New York, effective immediately.
The court’s order also commands Lunga to desist and refrain from the practice of law in any form in the State of New York, either as a principal or as an agent, clerk, or employee of another. Furthermore, Lunga is forbidden from appearing as an attorney or counselor-at-law before any court, judge, justice, board, commission, or other public authority, or from giving an opinion on the law or its application, or any advice in relation thereto, or holding himself out in any way as an attorney and counselor-at-law in the State of New York. Additionally, the court ordered Lunga to surrender to the Office of Court Administration any Attorney Secure Pass issued to him within 30 days of the date of the decision.
The Disposition states:
