On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department suspended attorney Daniel David Hediger for a period of 90 days for misconduct that occurred in New Jersey between 2004 and 2023.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Daniel David Hediger,” with case no. PM-149-24.
Hediger has been licensed to practice law in New York since 1995 but was suspended in 2000 due to failure to fulfill registration requirements. He is also admitted in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. The court’s decision stemmed from disciplinary actions against Hediger in New Jersey between 2004 and 2023, which included reprimands, censures, and a three-month suspension in 2023 for not complying with record-keeping rules and failure to cooperate fully with an ethics investigation.
However, Hediger did not report some of these past disciplinary actions in New Jersey to the New York authorities. The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department then launched a proceeding to impose discipline on Hediger in New York based on the misconduct in New Jersey. Hediger consented to reciprocal discipline and did not raise any defenses against the imposition of sanctions.
In determining the appropriate level of discipline, the court considered aggravating factors like Hediger’s extensive past disciplinary history as well as mitigating factors such as steps he has taken to reform. Ultimately, the panel of judges suspended Hediger for 90 days, noting the seriousness and pattern of misconduct over the past two decades.
The Disposition states:
“ORDERED that respondent is suspended from the practice of law for a period of three months, effective May 2, 2023, and until further order of this Court.”
According to avvo.com, Mr. Hediger is an attorney in Hackensack, New Jersey. He attended the George Washington University National Law Center. He acquired his law license in New York in 1995.
