On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department disbarred attorney George Richard Tilschner, effectively removing his name from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law. The decision followed a disciplinary proceeding initiated by the Grievance Committee for the Tenth Judicial District.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of George Richard Tilschner,” with case number 2025-01634.
Tilschner faced four charges outlined in a petition dated February 11, 2025, served by the Grievance Committee. The charges accused him of neglecting a legal matter entrusted to him, failing to re-register as an attorney with the Office of Court Administration for the 2023-2024 period, not cooperating with two Grievance Committee investigations, and engaging in conduct that negatively impacted his fitness as a lawyer. These allegations cited violations of Rules 1.3(b), 8.4(d), and 8.4(h) of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
The court directed Tilschner to file an answer to the petition within 20 days of service, which he acknowledged receiving via email on February 11, 2025. However, Tilschner did not submit an answer or respond to the charges. On March 7, 2025, the Grievance Committee moved to deem the charges established due to Tilschner’s default, and he did not oppose or respond to this motion.
The court, presided over by Justices Hector D. Lasalle, Mark C. Dillon, Colleen D. Duffy, Betsy Barros, and Phillip Hom, granted the Grievance Committee’s motion, confirming the charges and ordering Tilschner’s immediate disbarment.
The court further mandated that Tilschner comply with rules governing disbarred attorneys, including ceasing all legal practice, refraining from appearing before courts or public authorities, and not providing legal advice or presenting himself as an attorney.
Additionally, Tilschner was ordered to return any secure pass issued by the Office of Court Administration and certify compliance with these requirements.
According to Avvo, Mr. Tilschner was an elder law lawyer in Huntington, NY. He acquired his law license in New York in 1997.
