On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted the request of attorney Gita F. Rothschild to resign from the New York bar for nondisciplinary reasons.

The case is entitled “In the matter of Gita F. Rothschild,” with case no. PM-18-26.

Rothschild sought to resign for reasons unrelated to disciplinary actions, as outlined in the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters [22 NYCRR] § 1240.22 [a].

The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department (AGC) advised the court that it did not oppose Rothschild’s application. The decision was based upon Rothschild’s affidavit, sworn to December 10, 2025, and filed December 12, 2025, and a January 21, 2026, correspondence from the Deputy Chief Attorney for AGC. The court determined that Rothschild met the requirements for resignation based on nondisciplinary reasons.

As a result of the court’s order, Rothschild’s name will be removed from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in New York, effective immediately, until further notice from the Court, as per Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters [22 NYCRR] § 1240.22 [b]. She is also commanded to cease practicing law in any form within the State of New York, and is forbidden from representing herself as an attorney or counselor-at-law before any court, judge, or public authority.

The court has ordered Rothschild to surrender any Attorney Secure Pass issued to her to the Office of Court Administration within 30 days of the decision date. Robert D. Mayberger, Clerk of the Court, recorded the order.

The Disposition states:

“It is ORDERED that Gita F. Rothschild’s application for permission to resign is granted and her nondisciplinary resignation is accepted.”

According to Avvo.com, Ms. Rothschild is an insurance attorney in Newark, New Jersey. She acquired her law license in New York in 1984.
