On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted attorney Melanie Carrie Keene’s request to resign from the New York Bar for nondisciplinary reasons.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Melanie Carrie Keene,” with case no. PM-146-25.
Initially, the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department opposed Keene’s application, citing her failure to meet attorney registration requirements for the 2025-2026 biennial period. In response, Keene submitted a supplemental affidavit, confirming that she had resolved the registration issue and was now compliant with New York’s attorney registration requirements. The Office of Court Administration’s records verified that Keene had addressed any prior registration delinquency.
With no further objections from the Attorney Grievance Committee, the court approved Keene’s resignation. The decision, effective immediately, removed Keene’s name from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in New York.
The court’s order prohibits Keene from practicing law in any capacity in the state, including acting as an attorney, appearing before courts or public authorities, or providing legal opinions or advice. Additionally, Keene was directed to surrender any Attorney Secure Pass to the Office of Court Administration within 30 days of the decision.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that Melanie Carrie Keene’s application for permission to resign is granted and her nondisciplinary resignation is accepted.”
According to the filing, Ms. Keene acquired her law license in New York in 2007.
