On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Judicial Department reinstated attorney Ahmed Moataz Barakat.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Ahmed Moataz Barakat,” with case no. 2024-05904.

This decision follows a motion filed by Barakat, who was previously suspended from practicing law in New York due to non-compliance with Judiciary Law §468-a. The suspension was ordered on November 20, 2013.

Barakat demonstrated compliance with the law on multiple occasions, specifically on August 26, 2014, January 14, 2019, July 6, 2020, September 18, 2022, and most recently on August 7, 2024.

After reviewing the motion and related documents, the court concluded that Barakat had fulfilled the requirements for reinstatement.

The order reads:

“It is ordered that the motion is granted and petitioner is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law in the State of New York, effective the date hereof.”

According to the filing, Mr. Barakat acquired his law license in New York in 1990.
