On Thursday, October 2, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department reinstated attorney Justin Thomas Hutchinson. This decision comes after Hutchinson’s suspension, which was ordered by the same court in September 2024 due to violations of Judiciary Law § 468-a.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Justin Thomas Hutchinson,” with case no. PM-216-25.
The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department initiated the original action against attorneys, including Hutchinson, who were found to be in violation of the aforementioned law. Hutchinson subsequently sought reinstatement, adhering to the procedures outlined in the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters (22 NYCRR § 1240.16) and the Rules of the Appellate Division, Third Department (22 NYCRR § 806.16).
Hutchinson’s motion, which included affidavits and exhibits sworn to on July 17, 2025, was reviewed by the court. The Attorney Grievance Committee provided responsive correspondence dated August 26, 2025.
After careful consideration, the court determined, based on clear and convincing evidence, that Hutchinson had met the requirements for reinstatement.
Specifically, the court found that Hutchinson had complied with the September 2024 order of suspension and all applicable rules. Furthermore, the court was convinced that Hutchinson possesses the requisite character and fitness to resume practicing law. Finally, the court concluded that reinstating Hutchinson would be in the best interest of the public.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that the respondent’s motion for reinstatement is granted, and it is further ORDERED that the respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective immediately.”
According to Avvo.com, Mr. Hutchinson is an advertising attorney in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Harvard Law School. He acquired his law license in New York in 2009.
