On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted the request for reinstatement of attorney Stacey A. Wiley, who had been suspended from practicing law since January 2014.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Stacey A. Wiley,” with case no. PM-173-25.
The court reviewed several documents, including Wiley’s notice of motion, an affidavit with supporting exhibits sworn on April 28, 2025, and a supplemental affidavit submitted on the same day. Additionally, the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department provided responsive correspondence on June 12, 2025, along with Wiley’s reply affidavit dated June 16, 2025.
In its ruling, the court determined that Wiley met the requirements for reinstatement as outlined in the applicable rules. The justices noted that she had complied with the terms of her suspension and demonstrated the character and fitness required to practice law. The court concluded that reinstating Wiley would serve the public interest.
However, the court pointed out that while Wiley had generally complied with the rules, her affidavit of compliance did not adhere to the required format. The court emphasized that applicants must provide comprehensive affidavits without omissions, addressing any alternate facts relevant to their compliance.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective immediately.”
According to Avvo.com, Ms. Wiley is an attorney in Ithaca, New York. She acquired her law license in New York in 2001.
