On Monday, June 26, 2023, the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department granted the resignation for non-disciplinary reasons of attorney Jeff Jinsoo Shim.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Jeff Jinsoo Shim,” with case no. PM-138-23.
Shim sought permission to voluntarily resign from the New York bar, and there were no disciplinary reasons associated with his resignation application, as specified in the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters [22 NYCRR] § 1240.22 [a]. The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department (AGC) issued advice stating that it did not object to Shim’s application for resignation.
After carefully reviewing the affidavit of Shim, which was sworn to on April 27, 2023, and officially filed on May 9, 2023, as well as thoroughly considering the correspondence received on June 22, 2023, from the Chief Attorney for the AGC, the court has ascertained that Shim is eligible to resign voluntarily from the New York bar for reasons unrelated to any disciplinary matters. Consequently, the court has decided to approve Shim’s application for resignation.
The court ordered that Jeff Jinsoo Shim’s name be immediately removed from the roster of attorneys and counselors-at-law of the State of New York. Furthermore, Jeff Jinsoo Shim is strictly directed to cease and abstain from engaging in any form of legal practice within the State of New York, whether acting as a principal, agent, clerk, or employee of another. Shim is explicitly prohibited from appearing as an attorney or counselor-at-law before any court, judge, justice, board, commission, or any other public authority. Additionally, Shim is forbidden from providing legal opinions, or advice related to the law, or holding himself out in any manner as an attorney or counselor-at-law in this state. The court noted that failure to adhere to these directives may lead to further disciplinary actions.
The Disposition states:
“ORDERED that Jeff Jinsoo Shim ‘s application for permission to resign is granted and his nondisciplinary resignation is accepted”
Mr. Shim practices in Kirkland, Washington. He is licensed in Washington and New York, with license no. 5603121.
