On Thursday, June 8, 2023, the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department reinstated attorney Sheila Vichele McCorkle.

The case is entitled “Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department v. Sheila Vichele McCorkle” with case no. PM-121-23.

In a significant legal development, the State of New York’s court has granted the motion filed by McCorkle seeking reinstatement to the practice of law after being suspended by a court order in May 2019. McCorkle had diligently presented her case through a well-documented motion, including a sworn affidavit and exhibits, which were reviewed by the court.

The court, after careful evaluation and compelling evidence, established that the attorney had satisfied the requirements outlined in the Rules of the Appellate Division, Third Department (22 NYCRR) § 806.16 (c), demonstrating compliance with the suspension order and the court’s rules. Moreover, the court found the attorney to possess the necessary character and fitness to resume her legal practice. considering the public interest and adherence to the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters [22 NYCRR] § 1240.16 [a], the court granted the attorney’s motion for reinstatement. Consequently, the attorney is now officially reinstated, reclaiming her position as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective immediately

The Disposition states:

“ORDERED that respondent’s motion for reinstatement is granted; and it is further ORDERED that respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective immediately.”
